Frequently Asked Questions
|
What is MyOwnAddress.com?
|
MyOwnAddress.com is a division
of Outer-Net Technology Inc., an Internet Service Provider and
Web Hosting Provider since 1994. The MyOwnAddress.com system
was created to simplify the Internet Domain Name registration
and hosting process. We are an affiliated (second level
domain name) registration service for the .com, .net and .org
namespace offering the same Internic Registration services you
can get directly from registration services such as Network Solutions.
We also offer optional web hosting packages to help you get your
domain name activated on the internet quickly and painlessly.
Our registration services and hosting packages are very competitively
priced.
|
Why should I register my domain name with MyOwnAddress.com?
|
Several reasons.
Cost is a good reason.
Our registration fee is $29.95 Canadian dollars (Approximately
$20 United States dollars). The current Internic registration
fee with Network Solutions is $35USD and that is for registration
only (no parking or hosting).
Ease of use is another
reason. With MyownAddress.com you can register you domain
name using your web browser to answer a few simple questions (name,
address, phone number etc.). Many ISP's charge an administration fee
of $100 or more for this simple process.
Control is also
good reason. With MyOwnAddress.com you set the owner of
your domain name. Some services will set themselves as the owner
of your domain name putting you in a sticky legal situation if
you decide to switch to a new service. MyOwAddress.com has a web
based management utility that lets you modify the registration
information or move your domain to another hosting provider with
your registration username and password.

If
I register my domain name with MyOwnAddress.com, who owns

administrative contact on the domain registration application.
Domain Ownership is subject to the terms and conditions as set
forth at http://www.myownaddress.com/termsnew.html

and choose the Modify
Existing Domain link to change the technical contact and assign
a sub user with permissions to modify the domain information.
If you have chosen an Outer-Net Email/Web forwarding or hosting

as the Technical contact.

No. Domain registration is separate
from Domain hosting and Web/Email services. Outer-Net offers
combined registration and hosting packages at excellent prices,
but you can host your domain anywhere. If you choose one
of Outer-Net's Email/Web forwarding or hosting option you domain
will be hosted on our domain name, web, and email servers.
If you opt for registration only you must get these services from
an alternate hosting provider. You will be requires to pay the
yearly registration and renewal fees which is an excellent value
at over 40% less that the standard INTERIC fee of $35.00USD.
|
How do I change the owner of the domain name?
|
To transfer a domain name to
a new owner, the current owner will need to supply Outer-Net Technology
Inc. with a FAX letterhead of transfer approval for their domain
name. Copy for the letter will be provided by Outer-Net Technology
Inc.. A domain name can only be modified/transferred by one of
the contacts listed under the registered domain name.
|
Can I change the domain name or it's spelling?
|
No. The named itself cannot
be modified. If you want a new name or different spelling
you must register a new domain name and pay the registration fee
You may then cancel the incorrect domain name. The original
registration fee is not refundable, but if the domain name is
deleted you will not be responsible for the renewal fees.
If you have chosen an Outer-Net forwarding or hosting option the
new domain can be transferred to the original account and only
the registration fee is required.
|
Do I have to pay a yearly registration fee?
|
Yes. If you have chosen
one of the MyOwnAddress.com/Outer-Net forwarding or hosting plans
your registration fee is included in your hosting fees.
If you are hosting you domain with another hosting provider you
must pay the yearly registration fee. The current renewal
fee is $29.95cdn (over 40% less that the standard INTERIC fee
of $35.00USD). If you fail to pay the registration renewal
fee you will loose your domain name and it will become available
again for others to register.
